Har du förhoppningar om att Diablo 3 blir gångbart i e-sport sammanhang, trots officiella uttalanden om att ladders och ligor inte ingår i Blizzards vision för Diablo 3? Uttalandet nedan gjordes visserligen långt innan lanseringen, men ger oss ändå en fingervisning i vad vi kan förvänta oss av PvP-systemet.

While we’re talking about PvP it’s probably worth reminding everyone that what we’re targeting is a very loose and ‘for fun’ system. Imagine clicking a button, being matched up against another team of equal skill and gear, and win or lose you move forward (although faster if you win) on a personal progression system that gives you some cosmetic recognition as you go.

There won’t be ladders or leagues, we have no intent to expose team ratings, and very likely nothing besides a win/loss record to track performance etc. etc. etc.

Anyone who has tried it at BlizzCon knows the PvP in Diablo III is a blast, but I’ve seen some people start to get ideas that it’s going to be an eSport, and that’s just not something we’re targeting – for the sake of our goals in the single player/co-op experience.

Igår släppte en av Blizzards grundare, Mike Morhaime, bomben, då han i en intervju med Games Industry avslöjade att man kommer att stödja sitt nya DotA-liknande spel Blizzard All-Stars som en e-sport.

E-sports have become incredibly popular and Starcraft has become immense, particularly in South Korea. Do you see Blizzard doing more in e-sports with other titles?

– It depends on the title. When it comes to e-sports Starcraft is in a category of its own. The game is so fun to watch, it’s so well balanced and the strategies are so deep. There are other opportunities – we’re working on Blizzard All-Stars which has the potential to be a fun spectator sport and fun to play. We’re ready to support it as an e-sport.

Vad tror du om framtiden för PvP-systemet i Diablo 3? Kommer Blizzard att ändra sin ståndpunkt och bygga in stöd för ladders och ligor? Om inte, skulle du vilja att Svenska Diablo samlade den svenska PvP-communityn och skapade en plattform med rankinglistor, turneringar och priser?
